Had another go at the kyogen-style Japanese fox mask. These color schemes aren’t at all traditional, but I thought they were pretty striking, anyway!

The mid-sized one may go through a few stages of evolution, but I was pleased with these to start. I like the way they work with just about any color scheme.

A butterfly in shades of shimmery teal and peacock, with elegant gold eyelashes and highlights, and curling antenna. Perfect for a mysterious fairy, or courtly lady.

Japanese-style fox mask
Published August 19, 2011 Canines , Fauna , Leatherwork , Masks , Mythos Leave a CommentThis mask is called “Inari,” after the Japanese god of foxes.* The fox (kitsune) is a traditional character in Japanese masked drama, and I’ve tried to incorporate some elements of those classic character masks into my version.
*The namesake of those tasty Inarizushi, because of his purported fondness for fried tofu.
